You can take the girl out of MA but you can't take MA off of her car...

So after spending a miserable 2 hours yesterday in the hot, crowded DMV getting my car registered in CA and taking a driver's license test (passed - 100% - thank you very much), I spent 2 hours outside this morning in my PJs with my neighbor and my 2 kids running around (in their PJs as well) trying to get the MA plate off of the back of my car. In just 2 1/2 years, both bolts rusted the plate to the car. we weren't having any luck, so she knocked on another neighbor's door and he came to help us out - still no luck. i'm sure it was quite the sight for everyone driving by on their way out to work. it certainly is an interesting way to introduce oneself to the neighborhood...

anyway, i eventually cried "uncle" and took it into an autobody shop this afternoon. i couldn't believe i was going to have to pay someone to take my license plate off my car - how embarassing. However, it ended up taking them 20 minutes to cut the bolts off with fancy tools and to get a new plate on and then after all that, the owner of the autobody shop wouldn't even let me pay him anything! (people are REALLY nice here) So despite my earlier frustration and public humiliation, i still ended up with a happy ending today :)
