Last minute details...

a week ago the movers came and packed all our stuff up. compared to our last move - this was very low key. maybe it was because we already purged alot of our "things" last time, maybe it was because we didn't have a house to sell this time, maybe it was because both of us were working last time, maybe it was because our free time was filled with basically just packing and very few goodbyes this time or maybe it is for all these reasons. whatever the reason or reasons, we were able to spend a few hours thursday night picking up a rental car in fresno and taking the kids to chuck e. cheese for dinner/burn some energy, get to bed at a reasonable time, and then clean the entire house the next day (except the wood floors and the frig) while the movers were in and out.

friday night, monica and i escaped to starbucks for a few hours to say goodbye. it was only the second time we have ever gotten together sans kids. despite the fact that she was leaving at 6 am the next morning for a family vacation in yellowstone, we didn't say goodnight until midnight. i hope i'll meet a friend like monica in north carolina but if i am fortunate enough to do so - i don't anticipate it will happen as quickly as it did with her. a person can only be so lucky in friendship...

saturday was spent handing the keys over to our landlord whose son started moving in that morning, dropping our cars off to hopefully be picked up for shipment sometime in this decade, and grabbing a quick lunch before heading off to the airport. on our way out of town, j told me to take a good look around and say "goodbye" (it is highly unlikely i will ever be back - he will for work, but not me...) i guess i'd been looking forward for awhile now because not an ounce of nostalgia surfaced at the time. i only regretted not getting a picture of the kids with the life size gorilla at the local car wash. the kids always loved pointing him out and waving to him whenever we drove or walked by. oh well - i can live - no time to look back...

now i am in omaha at my in-laws. j left yesterday to be there for the movers who arrived early this morning (the earliest possible date that we could expect our stuff to arrive in NC!). we'll be reunited with him on monday when i fly out with the kids and j's parents - who are not only generously helping me with the travelling with the kids and all their gear but with the unpacking as well once we get to our new home. so currently i am in transition and looking forward to what lies ahead.
