yesterday we took the kids canoeing for their first time with friends, d and british jane. we were able to borrow canoes from j's work and we launched our canoes just a mile or 2 from our house at the local "beach" (it is a beach on the river running through town) - so it was a pretty low key expedition - which is important when the kids are involved. i guess some water had recently been released to the river but it was still pretty shallow at parts and j had to get out the canoe at times to push and pull us along. the weather and the kids were fantastic though - so no complaints. will have to do this again when my sister and her husband are in town with my nephew...
