I left my heart in San Francisco...

so for the 4th of july, we got the heck out of dodge and headed north. we drove up to san jose on wednesday night so that j could wake up first thing in the morning and start working while i took the kids to the children's discovery museum. i must say - the museum is a pretty good children's museum. in my mind, it doesn't top boston's - but it is up there at the top of my list. the icing on the cake was when action and family met us there. the kids had a blast playing together at the exhibits while i got a chance to catch up with my college friend and her hubby.

at lunchtime, the kids and i headed back to the hotel to pick up j and then we were on our way to san fran. for father's day, i got 2 tickets for j to see his favorite team, the cubs, play the giants that afternoon.
a little background - back in may when we realized we'd be moving, j had said that he always wanted to see a game at AT&T park and was bummed he wouldn't get the chance. as luck would have it - the cubbies were playing there before our big move.
then action alerted me to a $14 discount off of tickets so i was able to get $6 tickets for me and the kids to get into the game. i figured it was worth it even if we were there for just half an hour. so we were all able to go - it worked out perfectly! AT&T park, by the way, is awesome. if you haven't been there and you are ever in san fran during baseball season - GO TO A GAME. it is beautiful right on the water, still feels rather intimate, and is soooooooo kid friendly. i ended up enjoying the park for over an hour and i saw maybe 1 play. the kids had a great time playing on the slides, the trolley car, watching other kids play on the mini-baseball field, seeing all the boats out on the water, etc. another bonus - tickets are cheaper and easier to get than at fenway. the kids and i went out for dinner and then headed back to our hotel while j enjoyed the rest of the game with our friend, nick. overall a great day with the only bummer being that i discovered my new digital camera was completely busted. so unfortunately - no pictures.

on the actual 4th, we found a walgreens and i bought a disposable camera (what's a vacation without pictures - right????) then we all enjoyed our first trolley car ride down to fisherman's wharf. we took the kids to see the seals and ride on the carousel and basically just enjoyed walking around the city in the cool 65 degree weather. the kids were troopers - they walked everywhere. here's a few pictures from the day:

and here is the picture that would have been deleted and never have been printed had our digital camera been working:

that night we opted to take the kids back to hotel to watch the fireworks on tv (lame, i know). we just decided that it was waaaay past their bedtime, we were worried about getting transportation back to our hotel with the crowds, and with the fog rolling in - we were unsure of visibility. but even though it was a quiet evening - it was another great day.

on saturday, we bid adieu to san fran and headed to the palo alto area to visit with action and see their new home. they are in a great neighborhood and once again the kids loved playing together while we enjoyed our visit with action and her hubby. after lunch we headed back to fresno. i was looking forward to sleeping in our own bed but not to returning to the heat and the fresno area. it was a great last trip before our move - it helped me to lighten up on my anti-cali attitude and i think only san fran could have pulled it off (certainly not LA).
